BRAZILIAN-PORTUGUESE MUSICIAN BRINGS NEW MUSIC SCENE TO LONDON

Are you a fan of alternative, epic, face-melting rock music? Get ready. The birth of a new music scene is about to happen in London.

Scheduled for August 25 2017 at Ryan’s N16 Basement in Stoke Newington, the event is the first of a series of monthly nights in London.

The project is the brainchild of Brazilian-Portuguese musician Marcelo Cervone, who has worked in the arts industry for over six years.

As “an alternative to the ‘rip-off-promoter’”, musicians will be given the chance to play their own music, test new songs, stretch their abilities and build their audience.

According to Mr Cervone, this music initiative allows musicians to play original music and be paid, which is “pretty much unheard of in London for bands that are starting off”.

The event of August 25 will be headlined by Marcelo’s band: The Vone, with support acts from all over the world — including Australian singer Jenna Lesley, Portuguese jazz artist The Luna Roots and UK’s psychedelic-rock band The Mighty Orchid King.

Tickets cost £5 on Eventbrite and profits are being split evenly between musicians performing on the night.

Mr Cervone said: “Musicians need to practice and play live, endlessly and relentlessly. That is all it takes. The problem is it is hard to play live in London, where most opportunities for musicians require either paying to play or not getting paid at all.”

Mr Cervone has recently finished touring with West End award winning show Sunny Afternoon.
